VIDEO: Alice Coachman to offer mindfulness sessions as part of student experience

When students return to school at Alice Coachman this school year, they'll get a taste of a new approach to learning -- the education of the "whole child."

This philosophy is based around the concept that children who have their basic needs met are able to better focus in the classroom and grow into better adults.

At Alice Coachman, Principal Melissa Brubaker is totally shifting things around. Students will have family group time in the morning to get additional help on homework or other areas where they struggle. They'll have mindfulness time to help relieve stress and prepare for the day ahead.

The school will also be organizing students into "Houses," which are groups of students who participate in different activities and learning scenarios but who also incorporate non-cognitive areas such as community service.
