Westover's Blackmon Earns 1st Place, Named Speaker at Coveted Youth Conference

Westover High School student Madison Blackmon was selected to attend a Presidential Youth Conference in Las Vegas, NV, August 3-9, 2017.
 
Blackmon was chosen after an international selection process for the best and brightest students. She's one of 75 students were selected from the United States, Bermuda, Germany, Bahamas, Jamaica, Japan, South Korea, St. Croix and St. Thomas.
 
While at the conference, Madison received 1st place for her essay: "If you can dream it, you can achieve it" which secured her a spot on the awards ceremony program as a speaker. She also received a $100 cash prize, an IPad, $100 gift card from J.C. Penney's, a gift card from McDonalds, and a backpack full of technology items from Macy's Department Store.
 
Additionally, Madison, along with her peers, participated in academic and leadership workshops, toured the University of Nevada, spent time with WNBA figure Candice Wiggins, and more.
 
Westover High School English Teacher, Ms. Chiquita Greene, accompanied Madison on the trip.
