The Extended Day Program is currently available for all children enrolled in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in the Dougherty County School System.  EDP's activities, moderate cost, and quality supervision appeal to many working parents because it provides opportunities for children to use after-school time in a positive way.

After School Care

After school care is offered each school day until 6:10 p.m. at the weekly rate of $30.00, going down for other children in the household (see registration form for prices). There is also an additional $30.00 registration fee. After school care has four main objectives:

  • Snacks are provided each afternoon by the school system's Child Nutrition Services.
  • Homework time lasts for up to an hour. Some assistance is given to help students with what has been taught during the school day, but the EDP is not a "tutoring" program. At times, special enrichment is offered in conjunction with other educational programs.
  • Recreation has always been the main thrust of extended day program.  Organized games, crafts, team sports, free play and occasional field trips have always been at the heart of after school care.  After academics...children need to play!
  • Safety for children is the reason the EDP began, and it is the primary reason it still exists.

If you have a need to drop off a child early, school doors open at 7:00 a.m. for elementary school, 7:25 for middle schools, and 7:55 for high schools. School doors close at 3:00 p.m. for elementary, 3:45 for middle and 4:30 for high schools. Schools will be enrolled in EDP and charged program fees if left on campus beyond the school open periods.

Summer Day Camp

EDP Summer Day Camp is offered each summer, from 7:30 a.m. until 6:10 p.m. A separate $30registration fee is required. Rates for the 2012 Summer Camp will be $75.00 per week, going down for other children in the household.  Location and dates to be announced at a later date.

For all EDP program offerings, reduced rates are available for those whose incomes qualify.
