International Baccalaureate Program

Dougherty International Education Middle School is an International Baccalaureate prospective school and as such seeks to develop students who are life-long learners, critical thinkers and responsible global citizens. Students are provided rigorous academic learning opportunities and an environment in which they develop an appreciation of their own culture, as well as others; develop effective communication skills in their native language, as well as a foreign language (Spanish); and make communication among subjects they are learning in school and in real life.

The program aims to enable students to:

  • Build upon their spirit of discovery to develop an understanding and enjoyment of the process of learning independently and in cooperation with others
  • Acquire knowledge and understanding and prepare for further learning
  • Recognize the extent to which knowledge is interrelated
  • Learn to communicate effectively in a variety of ways
  • Develop a sense of personal and cultural identity and respect for themselves and for others
  • Acquire insights into local and global concerns affecting health, the community and the environment, and develop a sense of individual and collective responsibility and citizenship

Admission Requirements:

  1. Attendance area/zoned students then space availability (lottery)
  2. Must be promoted and scored at or above grade level in English/language arts and math
  3. Must complete all Middle Years Program course requirements for grades 6-8 which serve as prerequisites for continuance in the years 4 and 5 (Grades 9 and 10)
  4. Must pass Language B – (World Language:  Spanish or French)
  5. Must meet minimum attendance policy of 166 days per year 
  6. Must not have any severe discipline referrals
  7. Failure to complete years 1-3 MYP requirements will result in reassignment (regular academic program or return to zoned home school)
