Fine Arts Magnet Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Arts is a model fine arts elementary magnet school grounded in the belief that the arts can play a central role in how children learn. The faculty and staff are dedicated to using the integration of fine arts into the academic curriculum to increase the potential for success for all students. Specialized arts instruction is delivered during the exploratory period of the day for those students who maintain acceptable academic progress. Students in grades K-5 participate in visual art, dance, drama, music, and strings classes each week, with instruction offered by a full time six-member art team. The program also serves as an introduction to the Middle Years Program at Radium Springs Middle School of the Arts or the child’s zoned school. The energy and excitement generated from the arts program enhances the basic curriculum of math, language arts, science and social studies. Improved reading and language art skills are emphasized through our Accelerated Reader/Million Word Campaign and literacy blocks like Readers’ Workshops, Writers’ Workshops, and phonics. Admission Requirements: Parents must complete a student application. Parents must sign and adhere to the Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Arts Parent/Student Contract. Parents must submit a copy of the previous year’s report card for incoming students in grades 1-5 from an accredited school or program. Priority is given to an application when there is a sibling currently enrolled in the school. However, having a sibling at the school does not automatically guarantee a seat at the school. Kindergarten Must meet both criteria:
Grade 1-5 Must meet 3 out of the 4 criteria:
