Hello! Welcome to the Second Grade of Lincoln. Our second grade consists of five classes of twenty-three children. Each teacher is assisted by a para-professional. The six teachers and their para-pros are Room 223- Traseka Pickett Tonya Harrell Room 215- Murdis Small Derrick Battle Room 217- Glenda Richards Angela Evans Room 221- Carol Russell Lynne Smith Room 219- Lauren Alexander Lynne Smith Room 225- Mai Bell Tonya Harrell Our teachers believe it is important for the students to have "hands on" experiences in learning. Our curriculum is packed with lots of interesting things. We begin touring the United States. We learn to read a map and recognize all of those states. Science becomes lots of fun as we study different states--- the states of matter. We will be changing liquids into solids and tasting them, too. In Math, we are using all of our problem solving skills solving math word problems. We will be able to help Mom "estimate" her grocery bill as we shop with her. We will also let her know how much time is spent doing that chore as we learn to tell time and solve problems using elapsed time! We are looking forward to the day when we can finally read those notes our parents write in cursive. Each year we start our cursive writing before Christmas. By the end of the year, everything will be written in cursive. Our Accelerated Reading Program is off to a great start. We are reading lots of books and recording them in our AR logs.
