Handbook
Advantages:
Playing in an
orchestra is part of a well-rounded education. Music teaches
discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence. These qualities
enable students to achieve higher academic goals.
Secondly,
participants rehearse and perform with other talented young
people.
Thirdly, youth have an opportunity to grow as musicians and
to perform from the standard repertoire.
Responsibilities:
First of all,
know your music part. Practice at home as well as at school
so that you are prepared for Tuesday's group rehearsals.
(If you are struggling with any of the music, be sure to ask
your music teacher for help.)
Punctuality is important! Rehearsals begin at 4:30 and end
at 6:30. Be attentive and ready to listen to the conductor!
Observe your section leaders as they model for you. Be
willing to follow Darton College rules of refraining from
eating and drinking in band room and whispering in the
halls.
No chewing gum. Orchestra members are expected to behave
professionally.
Proper handling of your instrument will be demonstrated and
promoted in the rehearsal time. All cases should be locked
and placed on their sides next to your chairs.
Take care not to put your instruments on the floor.
All orchestra members are expected to be active in every
fund raising project. (We do accept donations.)
Dress rehearsals and concerts are mandatory.
Turn cell phones OFF before entering band room and put away.
(They will be confiscated if rules are not followed and will
be given back before you leave.)
