firm of Alexander & Co. to develop a comprehensive benefits
package for our employees. Alexander & Co. continues as
our insurance broker and works with us to review our package so that
we may continue to offer you the best quality benefits.

Benefits Eligibility
Regular full-time or temporary full-time employees are eligible
for benefits, effective on their date of hire. One may enroll in
benefits within the first 30 days of employment. A benefits
orientation is scheduled for each new employee and the DCSS strongly
encourages enrollment during orientation.
Open enrollment is generally held from mid-October to mid-November.
Additions or deletions can only be made during open enrollment or
within 30 days of approved and/or qualifying changes.

Under the Cafeteria
Plan, Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, employees are
allowed to pay many of these premium expenses with "before tax"
dollars instead of "after tax" dollars. Changes to your benefits
plan can only be made at open enrollment once a year or within
thirty days of a qualifying event, such as marriage, divorce,
birth, adoption, and other.

Life Changes
Please make sure to inform the Personnel Office any time you
experience a life changing event such as a marriage, divorce,
adoption, birth of a child, death or a spouse or beneficiary.
Your information should be updated as soon as possible after the event
occurs. Please note that changes to your beneficiary for
Teachers/Public School Retirement should be reported to the
Personnel Office and changes to beneficiaries for insurance should
be reported to the Benefits Office.
