Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts
was formerly Radium Springs Middle School
(RSMS). Completed in the spring of 1969 and
occupied in the fall of that same year, it served
approximately 500 youngsters. The physical plant
included a free-standing building, housing an industrial
arts shop and band room. Three major renovations
occurred between 1970 and 1977. The gymnasium was added first; a wing was added in 1972-1973; and
a second wing was built in 1976-1977. During the course of its growth, RSMS transitioned from the junior
high concept to the middle school concept – serving as many as 680 youngsters, at one time.
Today, Radium is a magnet school of the Arts, housed just south of the original site, in a multi-million dollar
state-of-the-arts facility designed to accommodate and educate 750 scholars. While achievement of
academic excellence continues to be its focus, Radium offers a seamless submersion in the Arts – including
band, dance, orchestra, theatre, and visual arts.
Unique, in that it is the only school in the district that is outside of the city limits, it is located near the famed
Radium Springs - for which it’s named. Radium welcomes the rest of the world to its daily pursuit of
excellence – academically, economically, socially, politically, and spiritually. Join us at the home of the
