The vision of
International Studies Elementary Charter School is to help
all children learn. The mission of International Studies
Elementary Magnet School is to help students develop high
academic skills, an understanding of international ideas,
cultural diversity, responsible citizenship, as well as
critical and compassionate thinking.
At International
Studies Elementary Charter School, we pride ourselves in
offering variety in programs and strategies that we use to
meet the needs of our children. The Reading Intervention
teacher offers small group reading recovery strategies to
children in first and second grades who are experiencing
problems in reading and math. The reading curriculum is
integrated using technology in the NCS and Josten's computer
labs. Lightspan and Brainchild curriculum are used to
remediate areas of weakness and/or to enrich learning. The
Accelerated Reader program, Language Arts Fair, and the use
of our home deployment program with Lightspan are other
means for addressing the needs of our students. Teachers
offer tutoring to students who are experiencing academic
difficulties. Resource services are provided for children
who are diagnosed with special academic or behavioral needs.
Students are celebrated for all of their accomplishments no
matter the size or nature.
International
Studies Elementary Charter School is uniquely located near
the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base and has enjoyed a
wholesome relationship with many organizations housed on
base. Parent involvement is an important priority and we
welcome parents in accordance with the expectations of this
magnet school. We welcome parents to come and partner with
us in their child's education at any time. The faculty and
staff work diligently with parents in many of the
extracurricular and curricular activities. Parents serve as
chaperones on class field trips and room mothers for class
events. We pride ourselves in having an active PTO with an
executive board made up of military officers who are our
parents.
