Three 6th grade students in Ms. Yalonda Jackson’s math class -- Sanaya Demps, Illyanah Lyons, and Tomecia Burden -- showed off their creativity and talent by producing and performing in a rap video for their Math class.
The video was an option for the 3rd nine weeks project as a review of Surface Area and Volume. Students had up to 6 options from which they could choose to represent their understanding of the concepts. Recording a video and singing wasn't one of the popular options. Ms, Jackson says these girls “are just 3 of the amazing 6th graders I am fortunate to teach this year at Robert Cross Middle School.”
Students are looking forward to the upcoming showcase in Ms. Jackson’s class, Open Mic, on February 23, in which they will be allowed to showcase their understanding of the various 6th grade math concepts through song, dance, skits, poems, etc. After all, Ms. Jackson's classroom is decorated as her Math Theater, "Where learning is a REAL production."
