The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or no-cost lunches to children each school day. The program was established under the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1946.
Dougherty County School District provides meals at no charge for enrolled students.

What is the Georgia School Nutrition Association? Its mission is to advance the availability, quality and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education. It is the professional organization of school food service employees in the state of Georgia. GSNA is a non-profit organization founded in 1951 and incorporated in Georgia in 1967. GSNA maintains a headquarters office and professional staff in Tucker, Georgia. GSNA is affiliated with the School Nutrition Association, a national non-profit organization with headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

It is a national, nonprofit professional organization representing more than 55,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country. The School Nutrition Association (SNA) has been advancing the availability, quality and acceptance of school nutrition programs as an integral part of education since 1946. Its mission is to advance good nutrition for all children. Its vision is healthful meals and nutrition education are available to all children. The SNA works to ensure all children have access to healthful school meals and nutrition education.
