GEAR UP Provides Opportunity for PSAT for 9th Graders

On March 24, 2022, all 9th graders were extended an invitation to participate in PSAT 8/9 testing at their school-- at no cost-- thanks to funding from GEAR UP.

  • Of the 776 9th graders from across the state who participated in testing during the February/March testing period, 684 are DCSS students.
  • Forty-four of our students earned 1000 or better. One of our students earned 1400!
  • This is the first time that the district has provided all 9th graders with access to the PSAT 8/9.
These students will be better equipped for the PSAT/NMSQT, which the state administers to all 10th graders. Several scholarships use PSAT/NMSQT scores to help students to secure funding for college and academic honors. Having advanced access to the college admissions testing landscape has provided these students with a unique opportunity to develop and hone the skills they will need to enter and succeed in college.
