Dedicated to excellence in education
ATLANTA – The Lake Park Elementary School Robotics Team earned second place in robot design at the state robotics tournament at Georgia Tech.
The team also finished eighth in robot performance at the tournament, in which teams from around Georgia competed against each other.
It was Lake Park’s first time earning a trip to the state tournament.
“I couldn’t be more excited for our students,” Teacher Erica DuPree said. “They’re really a special group and I am just so proud of them.”
Jessica Hatcher, the other coach on the team, echoed DuPree’s sentiments.
“This group of students are just amazing,” Hatcher said. “They really came together in a cohesive way.”
Lake Park earned the trip to Georgia Tech after first winning the champion award at a local robotics competition, then qualifying for state at a super-regional tournament in Columbus.
Principal Dr. Trina Bush was ecstatic.
“These students and teachers are just incredible,” Bush said. “They’ve worked so hard together and I’m just elated that it has paid off the way it has.”
