ALBANY, GA – Christopher Sharpe, an educational leader with valuable experience in elementary and middle grades, has been selected to lead Northside Elementary School as principal.

Monday, the Dougherty County Board of Education voted unanimously to accept Superintendent Kenneth Dyer’s recommendation to appoint Sharpe as the leader of Northside following the retirement of Katina Allen at the end of the school year.

Sharpe currently serves as the assistant principal at Robert Harvey Elementary School.

“Mr. Sharpe has consistently demonstrated the traits needed to be successful as an educational leader. He is known to be very strong instructionally, as well as in analyzing data to inform decision-making. He also, however, is known for connecting with others. He’s skilled at working with parents and students to overcome obstacles to learning, and he’s well-respected among those in the educational community. He’ll be a great asset to the students, families, faculty and staff at Northside,” Dyer said.

Sharpe holds a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Columbus State University. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Albany State University. Sharpe is also a graduate of the district’s Aspiring Principals Academy.

“I am very excited and honored to receive the opportunity to serve as principal of Northside Elementary School. I am extremely enthusiastic about joining a team of passionate educators. As an instructional leader, my goal is to build on the existing culture of providing effective instruction, sustaining continuous improvement, and increasing academic achievement in all students.  In collaboration with parents, families, and community members, I am committed to creating an environment where students feel safe, supported and valued,” Sharpe said. “Collectively, we can create the foundation that will positively impact the future for all students!”

Sharpe has experience leading in and out of the classroom. He first started his career as a 4th grade Language Arts Teacher at Sumter County Elementary School in Americus in 2012. His first experience in the DCSS was in 2014 as a 5th grade teacher at Turner Elementary School. Since that time, he’s also served as a teacher at Lockheed Elementary School in Marietta, as an instructional coach at Alice Coachman Elementary School, and as an assistant principal at Robert A. Cross Middle Magnet School before assuming his current position as assistant principal at Robert Harvey.
