ALBANY — Dr. Calvin Poole will serve as the principal at Merry Acres Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year after the Dougherty County Board of Education voted Monday to accept Superintendent Kenneth Dyer’s recommendation.

Poole, who currently serves as the principal at Sumter County Middle School in Americus, formerly served as an assistant principal at Turner Elementary School and Sherwood Acres Elementary School in the DCSS.

"I believe that the greatest accomplishment of any individual is to be able to create positive change by imparting knowledge to a younger generation,” Poole said. “I'm looking forward to coming back home to have a positive impact on our youth.”

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Dr. Poole back home to the DCSS. He is an exceptional leader, with a track record of making an impact wherever he has served. I look forward to him leading the continuous improvement at Merry Acres.”

Poole got his Bachelor's Degree in Science from the University of Rhode Island and holds another Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education and a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Science from Albany State University. He has also earned his Specialist in Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Albany State.

Poole replaces Dr. Shanekia Williams who has accepted a position as the district’s director of Curriculum and Instruction.
