AdamsALBANY, Ga. — The Dougherty County School System has selected Mrs. Nekiela Adams to serve as the district’s new 4th–5th Grade English/Language Arts Content Coordinator.

Adams brings more than 23 years of experience to the position, including 19 years in the classroom and four years as an instructional coach. She is recognized for developing engaging, standards-based instruction that supports student growth and strengthens teacher practice. Adams holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in early childhood education from Albany State University, as well as an education specialist degree in elementary education from Troy University.

A three-time Teacher of the Year recipient (2005–06, 2011–12, 2017–18), Adams is also a graduate of the DCSS Aspiring Leaders Academy (2024) and recently completed her Instructional Coaches Endorsement (May 2025).

Her appointment reinforces the district’s strategic emphasis on Early Literacy, a core priority aimed at ensuring all students develop strong reading foundations by third grade and continue to build proficiency in upper elementary grades. In her new role, Adams will lead curriculum support, guide instructional development and collaborate with teachers to strengthen literacy outcomes for students districtwide.
