A camera man from GPB films Kari Apperson's class for a special on Gifted Learning

ALBANY -- Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) visited Lake Park Elementary School to film an episode for a forthcoming series about gifted education. GPB is producing the “Gifted in Action” series in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE).

The series will spotlight gifted and advanced classes that foster student engagement and differentiation.

Filming took place on December 3, 2025, at Lake Park Elementary. The GPB crew captured a gifted lesson taught by Kari Apperson, a first‑grade teacher, and interviewed Trina Robinson, the district’s gifted supervisor, about how strategies used in gifted classrooms can be applied to all learners.

The episode is part of a larger collaboration between GPB and GaDOE to produce high‑quality educational programming. GPB recently released “Science in Action,” a similar series that puts high‑quality science instruction right into the hands of Georgia educators. Like that series, Gifted in Action will feature classroom lessons and interviews with educational leaders to show how effective instructional strategies can be implemented.

As details on the broadcast schedule emerge, the Dougherty County School System is excited for this opportunity to showcase the innovative work taking place in its gifted program. GPB’s “Gifted in Action” episode featuring Lake Park Elementary is expected to be available through GPB’s education website once production is complete, offering a resource for teachers and parents interested in high‑engagement, differentiated instruction.
