ALBANY, Ga. — The Dougherty County School System will celebrate National School Lunch Week from Oct. 20–24, 2025, highlighting the importance of healthy school meals to student success in and out of the classroom.

This year’s theme, “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport,” emphasizes how nutritious meals support students’ academic performance and social development. Research shows that many children receive their healthiest meals at school, and the district will use the week to showcase the nutritious options available daily in its cafeterias.

Students will have the chance to enjoy a variety of healthy foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. The district’s nutrition program also focuses on teaching students about making healthy choices and staying active.

“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Shantal Strozier, the district’s director of school nutrition. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

The celebration is part of the federally funded National School Lunch Program, which has supported student success for 79 years. The “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport” campaign is sponsored by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association.

Families are encouraged to join the celebration on social media using the hashtags #NSLW25, #TasteTheWorld, and #SchoolLunch.
