The National Beta School of Distinction Award honors Beta club chapters that demonstrate growth and excellence while encouraging student achievement and leadership opportunities. Lamar Reese Magnet School earned the distinction by increasing Jr. Beta Club membership by 10% over the previous school year, reflecting the school’s ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for student involvement and achievement. National Beta recognizes schools across the country that successfully promote the organization’s pillars of excellence through scholarship, leadership, character and service. The increase in membership at Lamar Reese Magnet School highlights the positive impact these values are having on students throughout the school community.

The Morehouse School of Medicine F.I.G.H.T. for Life (Families Implementing Good Health Traditions) program will be at the Family Resource and Support Center (FRSC), located at 722 Corn Ave., Albany, GA 31701, on Wednesday, April 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to connect families with valuable information and resources focused on health and wellness.
F.I.G.H.T. for Life is a diabetes prevention program designed for Black families in Albany, GA who are at risk for type 2 diabetes or have prediabetes. Families must have a child between the ages of 8–15 to participate. This 16-week program provides practical strategies related to nutrition, physical activity, and stress management to support healthier lifestyles.
We encourage you to share this information with families who may benefit from this program.
Grandparents and Gaurdians may attend. Please have the student's information for sign-in purposes.

Below is a brief overview of the organizations that will be present:
Open Arms, Inc. provides support for abused, homeless, trafficked, and at-risk youth (ages 0–24) and families. Services include emergency and transitional housing, support for abuse victims and teen mothers, outreach services, and essential supplies such as diapers and hygiene items.
Strive 2 Thrive is a community-driven program that helps motivated individuals move out of poverty by offering coaching, training, and support. Through partnerships with volunteers, organizations, and local businesses, the initiative provides a “hand-up, not a hand-out,” guiding Albany families toward long-term self-sufficiency and prosperity.
WorkSource of Albany assists individuals with finding employment and advancing their careers by offering free services such as resume building, interview preparation, job search assistance, skills training (including certifications and GED support), and career counseling. They also support businesses with recruitment and workforce training.
